MUDCAP Kick-Off in Lille

MUDCAP officially launches with a successful kick-off Meeting!

MUDCAP partners got together to launch the Interreg NWE Project

The MUDCAP Consortium officially met to start the project with a successful kick-off meeting held on February 11 & 12, 2026 in Lille, France. The event marked the beginning of a collaborative process to address pluvial muddy floods in NWE territories.

MUDCAP stands for "MUDdy flood mitigation through transnational action-oriented CAPacity building". It aims to strengthen prevention and resilience to pluvial muddy floods accross vulnerable territories in North-Western Europe through sustainable innovative solutions and local co-creation with key stakeholders and municipalities. Over the next 3 years, the project will support the active implementation of these solutions through transnational collaboration and new governance approaches in PMF (Pluvial Muddy Floods) management.

MUDCAP Kick-Off Meeting Lille

A strong start for transnational cooperation

The kick-off meeting provided an opportunity for official partners and associated partners to meet in person, introduce their organization and share their vision of the project. With partners from Belgium, France and Germany, MUDCAP will combine expertise and local co-creation for practical solutions and scalable implementation.

Prof. Jean-Philippe De Visscher from UCLouvain, the lead partner, reviewed the objectives and work packages of the project and gave special attention to governance structures and stakeholder engagement.

Key topics of the meeting

Important points were addressed during the meeting, including:

  • The identification of short-term priorities for all WPs, including pilot territories, existing policies, key actors, governance scales and available local data;

  • The method for selecting pilot sites and their locations;
  • The clarification of key concepts in the MUDCAP project; and
  • The budget management, including cost-sharing principles, financial balance between partners and budget estimations for each work package.
