Project summary
What is a Pluvial Muddy Flood (PMF)?
Pluvial Muddy Floods (PMFs) are increasingly frequent and disruptive in North West Europe (NWE). They are largely caused by run-off and erosion of cultivated land, resulting in significant damage.

Climate change, urbanization and changes in land use are exacerbating these PMFs, which are numerous, difficult to predict and whose mitigation requires overcoming complex societal barriers.

MUDCAP's role in the Muddy Flood issue
MUDCAP project addresses these challenges by equipping stakeholders with innovative tools that enhance their ability to predict, prevent and mitigate the risks associated with PMFs. The project will support the active implementation of these solutions through transnational collaboration and new governance approaches in PMF management.
Drawing on the expertise of our partners and bringing together fragmented data and knowledge, MUDCAP will produce a transnational database on PMFs, predictive tools, innovative co-development approaches and a digital toolkit for local and regional authorities. These outputs, together with policy briefs and training, will support the long-term adoption of the best practices and build resilience to PMFs across NWE.

Who works on MUDCAP?
MUDCAP brings together experts in mudslides from the Northwestern Europe region, and more specifically key public and academic stakeholders from Belgium, France, and Germany. We combine years of knowledge and technical expertise, putting them into practice together in the field.
But that's not all, MUDCAP also works with associate partners in charge of PMF management in the same area.
