What is MUDCAP?
MUDCAP's objectives
MUDCAP has 3 main objectives:
- To develop transnationally harmonized PMF risk maps integrating rapid land-use changes, mitigation strategies, and future climate scenarios, complemented by decision-support digital tools tailored for regional and municipal authorities ;
- To overcome societal barriers through transdisciplinary action research and experimentation with nature-based solutions at pilot sites covering a diversity of socio-environmental contexts; and
- To build stakeholder capacity. To achieve this, the MUDCAP consortium brings together experts in applied and social sciences, local and regional authorities and sectoral organisations from NWE countries to ensure a holistic and transnational approach to the challenges posed by PMFs.
Our 3 Work Packages
MUDCAP is structured and divided into 3 complementary packages responding to our objectives, that we call "work packages".
Work Package 1
The first work package involves collecting data on pluvial muddy floods (PMFs) and jointly developing harmonized tools for PMF risk assessment and planning in northwestern Europe.
Work Package 2
The second work package involves adopting an action-oriented approach through transdisciplinary pilot actions carried out at selected pilot sites and the development of PMF policies in the NWE region.
Work Package 3
The purpose of the third work package is to share our knowledge and PMF solutions so that they can be implemented as part of effective land and water management in NWE regions.
